We are into the final stage of the long IPL season 2015. This has been one of the most exciting IPL seasons and the playoffs promise to deliver the same excitement and thrill (just hope the rain gods don’t play spoil sport).

Except for the clear table leaders Chennai Super Kings, all the other three teams have qualified for the playoff spot in perhaps their last league games. Such has been the level of competitiveness in the IPL this season.

After 56 excruciating matches in the league stage; 4 teams viz-a-viz Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals have eliminated the other 4 teams to reach the playoffs, which kick off with CSK v MI game at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai today.

On 19 May, Tuesday, i.e. today, at 8PM IST, the Qualifier 1 of the IPL playoffs will be played between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians . The winner of the match will get a direct passage to the Final, while the loosing team will get another opportunity to make it to the finals in Loser of Qualifier 1 v Winner of Eliminator at JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi on 22 May, Friday.

Chennai Super Kings have been the most consistent side in the tournament this year. Dhoni-led team is two time champions and are going to prove tough competitors for the in for Mumbai Indians’ side.

Mumbai Indians are riding high on their game; having won 7 out of their last eight games; CSK on the other hand will be the weaker side going into the qualifier with no Brendon McCullum (tournament top-run getter for CSK) in the side. To add to MI confidence, they will be playing in Mumbai, their home ground, which we have seen does work as an advantage for team in the IPL.

The eliminator on the other hand will be played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals at MCA International Stadium, Gahunje, Pune, on 20 May, Wednesday at 8PM.

It is difficult to choose a side between the RCB and RR. On a given day, we know what the top 3 batsmen of the RCB can do, and their bowling is in top notch too. RR however is surely one of the most formidable sides in the IPL, with some consistent performers in the side and a great mentor in the dugout, RR will definitely fancy their chances.

In the Eliminator, while the losing team will have to go home, the winner will face the loser of the Qualifier 1 in the Qualifier 2 in order to book a slot in the finals to be played at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on 24 May, Sunday, at 8 PM.
