For the One Day International series, set to get underway at Mirpur stadium today, we will see MS Dhoni and Mashrafe Mortaza making a comeback for their teams. While MSD has retired from Test cricket and makes his appearance for the shorter version as captain of team India, Mashrafe Mortaza makes into the Bangladesh side after injury.
Although, there is a likely chance of rain playing spoilt sport in the ODI series as well, but one good thing from fans perspective is that there is a reserve day for each match in the series.
Both India and Bangladesh have uncanny fancy for ODI cricket. Both teams batting deep, and with nothing for the bowlers in the pitch, will surely look to score big. Scores of 300 plus have become a norm in limited overs cricket lately, and teams are especially tempted to make 400 plus scores in the sub continent. What are we going to see; only time will tell, but the stage is well set for a high scoring encounter!
The match isn’t just going to be all about batting. Bangladesh will be looking ahead for 6'2" Taskin Ahmed and co. to seam the ball through the Indian top order, while India will back their genuine fast bowler, Umesh Yadav and swinging Bhuvneshwar Kumar and co.
About the pitch
Mirpur pitch is generally on the slower side, but it remains to be seen how the pitch plays due to exposure to monsoon changes. Though, the pitch won’t have anything for bowlers to capitalize on, but we have seen in the past that the pitch has behaved strangely due to monsoons. There are chances of heavy rain today till 6pm local time. Match is scheduled to start at 3pm local time.
Bangladesh will play out of their skin in the series, since they need to win atleast one match to remain in the top 8 of the world ICC rankings to ensure they directly qualify for the ICC Champions Trophy.
