Sri Lanka vs. South Arica ICC World Cup 2015 1st Quarter Final Match Preview
The ICC World Cup 2015 has reached the last eight after four weeks of battle between fourteen teams in two pools. The first match of quarter-finals will be played between Sri Lanka and South Africa on Wednesday at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The game is expected to be one of the best quarter-final clashes to begin with.
Both teams have lost two games each and the past record is even for two contenders. While Sri Lanka is known to perform better at this stage of tournament, a bad record haunts South Africa.
Both teams have experienced batting line and a balanced bowling line. Kumar Sangakkara is on fire and, so far, he has fetched 496 runs with four consecutive centuries. Mahela Jayawardene seems to have gained his form again and Tillakaratne Dilshan is already among leading run-getters in league matches.
However, AB de Villiers, the caption of South African squad, is in solid form with over 400 runs under his belt in the tournament thus far. South Africa will look to win the toss and choose to bat first because they have lost both pool games while chasing targets. However, South Africa seems to be overpowered by a desire of losing in the playoff again.
Based on the performance of both, the team-play and individuals players, Sri Lanka seems to have an edge over their rivals, but neither side is likely to give up easily. So, expect it to be an interesting match.
